Disney Plus Premier Access launched on House of Mouse’s own streaming platform in September 2020. It allowed those wishing to watch Walt Disney Studios’ latest theatrical release from the comfort of their own home at a premium price during the Covid-19 pandemic, with cinemas around the world shutting down closed for many months.
Initially introduced with the release of the live-action version of Mulan, we’ve later seen the same with multiple titles, including Emma Stone’s portrayal of Cruella and Marvel’s long-awaited appearance of Black Widow.
The last Premier Access title to hit the service was The Rock’s Jungle Cruise on July 30, before its next appearance on the main Disney Plus platform on Disney Plus Day a few months later.
With theaters reopening and no official word from Disney, it seems like the ability to watch the latest and greatest Disney Plus movies from the comfort of your own home via Disney Plus Premier Access is a thing of the past.
What was access to Disney Plus Premier?
Disney Plus Premier Access has gone some way to recreating the cinematic experience. All-new titles straight from Walt Disney Studios have been made available on Disney Plus day after day with their theatrical release, meaning you can enjoy them from the comfort of your own home for an additional one-time fee.
Not only was it possible to share the excitement of the latest big-budget movie with family or friends for $30 (the price of two theater tickets), there were also Premier titles available to watch in stunning UHD or HDR quality with Dolby Audio.
Subscribers were also able to watch the film multiple times. That’s in addition to enjoying the latest Disney extravaganza months before it becomes available to regular Disney Plus subscribers.
