KEF has refreshed its R-series of high-performance loudspeakers with a new set of devices for 2023. The line-up includes audio technology upgrades that deliver great stereo or home theater sound, whether you want your new set of speakers to fit on your bookshelf or stand on the floor.
KEF is known for creating high-quality audio products that deliver high-end sound, such as the KEF LS50 Wireless II Stereo Speakers. KEF says the seven R-series speakers are “engineered to deliver superior performance with more detail, deeper insight and greater emotion.”
This is made possible by a number of technological improvements, including a sophisticated slotted tweeter attenuator to tame resonances for greater detail, a flexible decoupling housing to prevent unwanted vibrations for better quality, and hybrid aluminum bass drivers for greater driver excursion, resulting in a deep and controlled bass.
But the standout feature is a new type of technology KEF calls Metamaterial Absorption Technology, a “maze-like structure” in each speaker where channels can absorb specific frequencies.
KEF claims this creates an “acoustic black hole” that can absorb 99% of unwanted sound from the rear of the tweeter. The result is less distortion, which promises pure acoustics with an incredibly natural sound.
There are seven speakers to choose from to suit different preferences. The R11 Meta, R7 Meta and R5 Meta are floorstanding speakers, while the R3 Meta is designed to be placed on bookshelves or on a stand. They all provide high-quality stereo sound and are designed to work in a variety of spaces. KEF says they excel in depth and detail. The R6 Meta and R2 Meta are home theater center speakers with clear dialogue and designed to work in a variety of rooms.
If you’re looking for Dolby Atmos support, check out the R8 Meta surround speaker, which can be wall-mounted or stacked on top of another R-series speaker for immersive sound.
All speakers in the range have the modern, stylish look we’ve come to expect from KEF. There are three finishes to choose from: Gloss Black, Gloss White and Walnut. But two distinctive finish options will also be available later in the year: the Titanium Gloss Special Edition for the R7 Meta and the Indigo Gloss Special Edition for the R3 Meta.
The KEF R series is now available, but the special edition will have to wait until summer 2023.
