I found the cheapest 8K monitor, but there is only a small problem

TVs are great monitors (but not vice versa), I know something about itThat’s why the Samsung QN700B Neo, currently the cheapest 8K TV, is a great choice if you’re looking for the most affordable 8K monitor on the market. For the money, the QN700B’s specs are spectacular: according to AV TechRadar expert Hamish Hector, thanks to Samsung’s impressive Neo QLED technology, you can expect bright images with fairly decent contrast in darker scenes. Contrast won’t be as good as with a standard OLED TV – or one rumored Samsung QD-OLED – but there are still plenty of great reasons to pick up the QN700B.

It won’t match the best monitor for photo editing or the best monitor for video editing, but if you’re looking for a business monitor or something that can display A LOT of information with good (rather than perfect) image quality then it should be at the top of your list except little problem; it may be too big for you to handle.

You see, it’s 30.5 inches tall and 48.2 inches wide (and to confirm, its diagonal is only 54.6 inches, not 55 inches, a rounding trick used by many manufacturers). This TV takes up a lot of desk space, so make sure your desk has enough space to support its weight (nearly 54 pounds). Don’t expect any tilt or swivel options (unless you want to wall mount it with a VESA mount).

8K advantage

8K means your TV will have four times the resolution of 4K. Instead of 3840 x 2160 pixels, it is twice as long horizontally and vertically (7680 x 4320) – for a total of four times as many pixels. The benefit of this more pixel count is that images will become even sharper and clearer than what we’ve seen before.

A 55-inch 8K display is the exact equivalent of four 27.5-inch 4K screens or 16 14-inch Full HD panels. This could be a game changer in terms of productivity (if your eyes can handle the pixel density) as you won’t have to deal with monitor arms, thick bezels, or multi-monitor compatibility anymore. One pane to rule them all.

There are also four HDMI 2.1 ports, Bluetooth 5.2, a built-in microphone, three USB ports, an Ethernet port, Wi-Fi and an SPDIF connector. Four speakers with a total power of 60 W and Dolby Atmos support are responsible for the sound.

Samsung only offers a one-year warranty, but we strongly recommend taking advantage of the additional protection plan through the Geeksquad plan, which is especially useful because technicians will come to you in case of any problems, rather than bringing the TV to the store. The 5-year plan costs $299 and is the best value for money.

Solidigm removes old Intel SSD with 670p (opens in a new tab) sell for $75.99, just a dollar more than its rival Silicon Power. It is much faster (3.5GB/s/2.7GB/s read/write); however, because it uses QLC, its strength is lower at just 740 TBW, almost 40% less than Silicon Power. But remember, when it launched in February 2021, just over two years ago, it was selling for a staggering $330.

670p is one of the fastest PCIe 3.0 drives available, so you’ll need to upgrade to PCIe 4.0 SSDs for even faster models. Fanxiang S660, now available on Amazon for $79.19 (opens in a new tab) with a 10% discount coupon, it is the fastest cheap SSD we could find, thanks in part to the SLC cache. It claims to deliver 4.8GB/s/4.2GB/s read/write speeds with a 5-year warranty/1400 TBW. We like that it comes with a heatsink included (great for upgrading your PS5 SSD), but others will object to this Chinese company’s lack of reviews and brand pedigree.

Want to buy something even faster?

Just below $98 (opens in a new tab) (down from $111.99 after a 10% discount coupon), the S770 (the faster sibling to the aforementioned S660) is the fastest SSD under $100. We haven’t found an independent review of the S770 (or any Fanxiang SSD), but the numbers this SSD brings to the table are ridiculously good – at least on paper: its read/write speeds of 7.3GB/s/6.8GB/s at 1400 TBW make it almost as good as the Samsung 990 Pro. It comes with 2GB of DRAM and uses 128-layer YMTC NAND memory and like the S660 it has a heatsink.
